To Lake Körbersee in the morning

back to magazine overview

24 degrees: A place for your marriage proposal?

This morning we left for Körbersee. We - that means Katrin, Barbara, Hannes and I - all four employees at Lech Zürs Tourismus. These moments are some of the delicacies of our job for one of the most beautiful destinations in the Alps, for which we are truly grateful. This enables us to capture the beauty of our mountains and to bring the Arlberg region closer to our guests and all interested parties. In this case we went to Körbersee, this special place on Hochtannberg, which received a lot of attention last year with the ORF programme "9 Schätze - 9 Plätze" - it was voted Austria's most beautiful place by the audience.
Admittedly, such spectator elections are always to be enjoyed with caution, as there are numerous other beautiful places in the rest of Austria. Nevertheless, the community of Schröcken is particularly pleased about this award and we in Lech Zürs are of course also pleased. After all, with Lake Formarin we now have 2 of Austria's most beautiful places within a radius of 20km.

From Hochtannberg to Körbersee

This place can be reached relatively quickly. From Hochtannberg - the pass between Bregenzerwald and Lechtal a relatively wide footpath leads over hilly alpine pastures past numerous cows to a hill. From up here the lake already spits out, but it is still a few meters downhill until we can see it in full splendour. There it lies, quite quietly and secretly, in a valley, almost reservedly opposite the mighty mountain peaks in the background: Juppenspitze with 2.412m, behind it the Mohnenfluh with 2.542m and a little further but still raised and proudly the Braunarlspitze with 2.649m. We are almost exactly 1,000 meters below and can now enjoy this beautiful place for ourselves in the early morning.

Proposals and brave swimmers

We walk directly to the shore, where a small footbridge rises into the Körbersee. Picturesquely, even romantically, 2 small rowing boats lie ashore. I wonder if there's ever been a couple in love here before. I'm sure! We were also sure that in midsummer, when it is unbearably hot in the valley, a few brave ones jump into the Körbersee to cool down, after all the 8m deep lake gets up to 24 degrees warm. We are not so hot today, so we decide to go for a walk around the lake and roam the dew-wet flower meadows. It's so beautiful to be here!

Back to the office

Although there are numerous hikes here in the Tannberg region, we have to go back the same way - after all, "normal" office work is still waiting for us. We would much rather walk over Auenfeld to Oberlech and Lech am Arlberg - but we don't have that much time. Fortunately, there are also many other ways to discover all this! Maybe we will meet at Körbersee - or high up on Mohnenfluh? Me, Markus and my three friends, would be happy!
